back
wow it's been forever since I posted here.
don't know why I stopped, but I think it might because I got a job as a real critic and didn't have the time to make new entries. I'm still a critic but just not full time now. The last movie I critiqued was "Twilight", but I'm not going to talk about that here, if you want to read my review go check my facebook notes. To make things simple, I hated the movie. =)
What made me came back to this blog is the fact that I've been pretty impressed with the movies of Summer 2008. Where to start? let see:
Iron Man: Good movie, but I was somewhat dissapointed, There was too much hype surronding the movie so I went in there with very high expectations. Robert Downey jr. put on a great preformance as Tony Stark. I was glad that they put an actual villian (Iron Monger) from the comic books in there, I feel that one mistake a few superhero movie made was that they had no real villian, for example "The Punisher" with Thomas Jane didn't really work because The Punisher didn't have an enemy, they just put some random mob dude played by John Travolta in there. Another example would be "Superman Returns", Superman didn't really have an enemy, his enemy was some giant rock that for some reason took him over half an hour to lift. But enough about other superhero, back to Iron Man. The movie overall was good but I guess I was expecting more action. What made it dissapointing for me was that I realize Iron Man's suit was never at 100% in the movie, I mean come on, he went in to his last battle with Iron Monger at like what? 57%? Fans of the movie will be happy to know the sequel is already in the making. One extra thing, if you stayed to the end of the credits, there is a scene where Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) shows up to talk about "The Avenger's" short scene, but worth staying to the end.
The Incredible Hulk: Suprisingly enough, when I first saw this I enjoyed it more than Iron Man, probably because I went with lower expectations. I was so glad that they didn't follow up with the 2003 one with Eric Bana, I thought that movie was completely garbage. What made the 2003 one very bad was the fact that they made The Hulk look more like a villian than a hero. Ever realize in that movie the only thing The Hulk does is smashes things? the only heroic thing he did in that movie was save that Jet Fighter from crashing into the bridge. The other thing I found funny was that in the 2003 version, whenever The Hulk jumped, it took him forever to land, this isnt suprising since the director was the director of "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". And again "The Hulk" didn't have a real enemy from the comic books.
The 2008 version of "The Hulk" beats the 2003 version in ALL aspects. And plus Edward Norton was a great choice. The action in this movie was actually done very well, and Tim Roth gave a good preformance as "The Abomination" (The Hulk's enemy from the comic books). props to the director Louis Leterrier (Transporter 1, Transporter 2, Unleashed) for the action sequences.
The Dark Knight: okay, if you haven't seen this movie, GO SEE IT!, if you haven't seen this movie, then you have no life. I cannot think of any negative thing to say about this movie except Maggie Gylenhaal, I personally didn't like her . Christian Bale which is one of my favourite actor was just amazing in this movie. Heath Ledger (The Joker) was even better. In some areas, I thought Heath was better than Jack Nicholson, but then I guess you can't really compare since it's different views on the joker.
There were some reviews saying the plot was hard to follow, I really didn't see how hard it can be since it's pretty much a good guy vs bad guy movie. This movie pretty much had everything that makes an action movie good. Plus I like how Christopher Nolan added a lot of darkness to the movie.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: This movie wasn't the greatest movie of the summer, and would say the worse out of the 4 Indiana Jones movie, but still entertaining. The plot was weak compare to the other Indiana Jones, but I felt the action and humour was well made. Harrison Ford's carrer hasn't been going anywhere lately, I think this must of been his best in recent years. This movie proved that Harrison Ford at the age of 66 still has something in him. The movie wasn't all that bad, it's worth checking out.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian: I went in this movie with again low expectations, and kept telling myself "I'm probably not gonna enjoy it since it's a kid's movie" but I did end up liking it, even though I hated "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" but I say Prince Caspin was a big improvement, espscially the battle scenes, I was kindda suprise how much some of the actors/actresses aged though.
This movie was another fun movie, I guess if you like fantasy movie with good battle scenes, this one is for you.
I think that's most of the hollywood movies I've seen in this summer, I might of missed some.
some movies I DO NOT recommand though is:
The Happening
Rightous Kill
and that's all I can think of..
until next time.
